Boko Haram Claims 101 Dapchi Schoolgirls Were Released "Out Of Pity"

Mansur Dan-Ali the Nigerian Minister of Defence has said the Nigerian forces are closing in on the abductors of the Dapchi Girls

Boko Haram Islamists have threatened: "don't ever put your daughters in school again" as they set free almost all of the 110 kidnapped Nigerian schoolgirls after seizing them in Dapchi last month.

Earlier reports had stated that 105 of the girls were released by Boko Haram on Wednesday morning while five of them died.

"This is a warning to all of you", the militants warned, as the Associated Press was informed by the witnessed Ba'ana Musa.

The same terrorist group that kidnapped nearly 300 girls three years ago, prompting the #bringbackourgirls campaign, returned the schoolgirls they kidnapped last month.

Earlier, Daily Trust reported that the insurgents returned the girls in the early hours of Wednesday few minutes after soldiers were withdrawn from the town.

The mass kidnapping brought back painful memories of the 2014 Boko Haram abduction of almost 300 girls from a separate school in Chibok, 170 miles southeast of Dapchi. In the local Hausa language, Boko Haram roughly translates to "Western education is a sin".

The Country's Minister of Information and Culture Alhaji Lai Mohammed confirmed the return of 76 out of the 110 girls following "back channel efforts' by the government".

"They assembled the girls and talked to them for some few minutes and left without any confrontation", said another resident, Kachallah Musa.

"I am so happy because Ummi is fine", he told CNN.

The extraordinary development brought elation to most of the families, but more heartache for the relatives of the nine girls still unaccounted for.

"No ransom was paid to them to effect this release".

The Nigerian government said that the group freed 101 of the girls and that the number would be updated as more girls are returned.

According to the statement, " There need to give support to their families and communities to feel safe and return to school. "Alhamdulillah!" an aide to President Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad, said on Twitter.
