Buhari Summons IGP Ibrahim Idris, Queries Him For Flouting Presidential Order

Presidency bars PUNCH, others from covering Buhari's Benue visit

President Muhammad Buharihas summoned the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris for disregarding a presidential order to remain in Benue State.

He reportedly asked the Deputy Inspector-General, operations, Joshiak Habila to take over while Idris moved to Nasarawa State. On that day Mr. President, your mothers and women and daughters and children and the aged of Benue State woke up to a horrendous news, news of maiming and killings by marauding herdsmen and they just didn't kill the men that were like them, they killed my sisters, pregnant women, defenseless old men and Mr. President if you were not a soldier I would have said you are in that category because you are also in your seventies and we categorize them as old sir.

Buhari is said to have summoned Idris to the Presidential Villa, where he queried him for flouting his orders.

"It is believed that the president demanded a full report on police operations till date after which he will make further decisions", a presidential source told reporters.

There is a renewed resolve to make sure that the killings and bad security situation in Benue state abates.

"Mr. President, I stand here today to talk on behalf of the women, children and the aged of Benue state".

The Tor Tiv, Professor James Ayatse, who also spoke at the event urged President Buhari to re-consider the redesigning of the country's security architecture with the states and traditional rulers having a role to play.

Buhari has been criticised for being ignorant of the fact that the IGP did not stay in Benue, a matter of public knowledge. "But I know I dispatched him here", the President said.

The party contended that the "President has irredeemably indicted himself and such unpardonable slipshod attitude to governance is directly responsible for his government's wrecking of the nation's once robust economy as well as other woes that have befallen our nation in his nearly three years in office". That will not be proper.

"But I know I dispatched him here". That allegation came from Benue people.

Presidential spokesman, Mr Femi Adesina quoted Buhari as saying that he was not in the habit of publicly rebuking his appointees as many would desire. No human being is omniscient, it is only God that is omniscient: He knows all things.

"If the presidency is not committed to monitoring critical issues such as security, then Nigerians are no longer in doubt as to why other sectors, particularly our once robust economy, had gone comatose under the Buhari administration".

Buhari said that government was deeply anxious about the incessant attacks on Benue's rural communities, and vowed to end the menace "very soon". Click any of these buttons below!
