Buhari's re-election bid: Minister slams Obasanjo, IBB, says they are not God

Tope Fasua

Minister of Communications, Adebayo Shittu has declared former President Olusegun Obasanjo remarks about President Muhammadu Buhari invalid saying that he can not stop President Buhari from winning the 2019 election.

"Don't forget that under Obasanjo when the process was affecting governance, he read a riot act and said let's concentrate on governance, President Buhari is just somebody like that, he will never allow politicking to affect governance".

His view was buttressed by our Presidency sources who further repeated the position of Mr. President who famously said that corruption is endemic and Nigerians need to kill it before it kills Nigerians.

Shehu said that President Buhari would also renew discussions with the Archbishop of Canterbury, The Most Rev. and Rt. Hon.

'Buhari must seek re-election' Buhari's decision to officially declare the intention to run for the second term follows various speculations. The victory came in 2015. "Before the declaration, there tended to be lack of clarity as to where we were going".

But Adesina maintained that it was not on record that Buhari had told the leadership of the APC or any member of the party that he would do only one term in office.

"What Mr President did yesterday (Monday), we had done that much back on his behalf; that is the Muhammadu Buhari/Osinbajo Dynamic Support Group".

The President came highly recommended as a man of integrity and he has lived up to this billing with his fight against corruption.

The protesters are said to have benchmarked their actions on local grievances and national challenges which the government is already tackling head on.

"Yes, there had been a lot of appeals". Obasanjo was president here, he wanted a third term and he didn't get it.

"And do you know that whenever the president reacted to these groups he would speak on all other points they raised except the issue of second term". He needs to have time to reflect, refurbish physically and recoup and after appropriate rest, once again, join the stock of Nigerian leaders whose experience, influence, wisdom and outreach can be deployed on the sideline for the good of the country.
