Federal Legislation to Legalize Hemp Advances to Senate Floor

McConnell: Passing Legislation to Protect Mueller 'Not Necessary,' Don't Think Trump Will Fire Him

Ryan previously said of the notion Mueller could be fired: "I have no reason to believe that's going to happen".

He also complained about media coverage of his plan to move forward with the bill.

South Dakota Sen. Mike Rounds said Tuesday that Trump should make the decision on his own and be responsible for the consequences.

He said he would be surprised if Trump did dismiss Mueller, stressing, "I don't think he should, and I don't think he will".

McConnell shut down the bipartisan bill in an interview on Fox News on Tuesday, saying it would not receive any time on the Senate floor.

"It would send a message", said Senator Susan Collins, Republican of ME, who recently endorsed the special counsel proposal written by two Republican senators, Thom Tillis of North Carolina and Lindsey Graham of SC, and two Democratic senators, Chris Coons of DE and Cory Booker of New Jersey.

School walkouts across U.S. to remember Columbine, keep up push for change
Hispanic and black teens expressed more worry about shootings happening at their schools than white teens. Reaction to the walkout has been mixed, but mostly supportive.

"I don't think the president is going to do that, McConnell said". Despite the fact that such a bill would pass, probably easily, he refuses to allow a vote on the floor because, he says, it's unnecessary and Trump wouldn't sign it.

Congressional Democrats and Republicans last week seemed to get on board with a compromise bill to fence off Mueller and his investigative team, who are looking into Russian meddling in the 2016 USA election, and a number of additional threads, including an obstruction-of-justice case against Trump. The new bill is a merger of two bipartisan bills introduced last August, and its sponsors hope the current version is clear of the constitutional questions legal experts raised about the original legislation at a hearing previous year. Although placing a bill or joint resolution directly on the calendar does not guarantee that the full Senate will ever consider it, the measure is available for floor consideration and certain procedural steps or requirements may be obviated.

The legislation would give any special counsel a 10-day window to seek expedited judicial review of a firing, and would put into law existing Justice Department regulations that require a firing to be for "good cause".

He continued: "I'm focused on making sure we get to a mark-up on the Judiciary Committee next Thursday and that we're in a place for it to get passed the Judiciary Committee". Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., said she expected to receive a copy of that amendment on Wednesday.

"And I don't know how to conspire", he said before gaveling the hearing to a close.
