Major League Baseball suspends four players following Wednesday's Padres-Rockies brawl

Major League Baseball on Friday announced disciplinary measures against four players for their roles in the Wednesday brawl between the San Diego Padres and the Colorado Rockies.

Colorado Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado has been suspended five games by Major League Baseball for his role in a brawl against the San Diego Padres.

Outfielder Gerardo Parra and starting pitcher German Marquez were also ejected for participating in the brawl and both are also likely to face a suspension. Both have also received undisclosed fines. Ellis and shortstop Freddy Galvis were each fined for fighting and their other actions during the brawl as well (Cassavell reports Parra got 1 game, but it is actually four).

In all likelihood, even if the suspension remains at five games, they could start him the day after his suspension ends and just give him an extra day of rest.

Rockies-Padres Brawl: Nolan Arenado Charges Mound, Sparks Wild Fracas

Rockies manager Bud Black said the suspensions were about what he expected.

Perdomo, Arenado, and Parra are set to begin their suspensions tonight. They will not have to serve their suspensions at the same time, meaning the Rockies' 25-man roster will only be depleted by one player at a time. That's not why we're playing this game.

That set the stage for Arenado, who didn't take kindly to a pitch that almost grazed his back.

"I'll find a way to stay ready and stay locked in. So I need to see some pitching and somehow stay ready". He was placed on the disabled list with bruised ribs. Prior to the game, Blackmon ran and stretched while head trainer Keith Dugger and Black looked on. "Charlie was encouraged, as was Keith". The big play was Tony Wolters' bases-loaded, two-run single that center fielder Franchy Cordero misplayed to allow another run to score. We are hoping (he doesn't go on the DL).
