Memorial to Hither Green burglar torn down but…

Richard Osborn-Brooks

The 37-year-old's family have been repeatedly leaving cards, balloons and flowers opposite the house where Vincent died during a botched attempt to burgle pensioner Richard Osborn-Brooks's home.

The 78-year-old was arrested on suspicion of murder, but has since been released by the Metropolitan Police and has been told that he will not face any charges.

They first appeared opposite Mr Osborn-Brook's property in Hither Green, south-east London, overnight on Monday but were promptly taken down.

The controversial shrine was then replaced by three women, who fastened bouquets and balloons to the same fence.

Eamonn said: "Could you not argue that the tributes are about threatening that people who live at the house which is "we know we you live, we haven't forgotten that you're here and there's going to be a memory outside this house every day that you come out there".

One of Osborn-Brooks' neighbours told the paper: "If it was safe for him to return, that shrine would turn his stomach".

Her sister added: "I think people are angry that he's had to leave his house".

Assistant coroner Sarah Ormond-Walshe told two of Vincent's female relatives during a hearing at Southwark Coroner's Court: "I know you are having a awful time - I am releasing the body now".

The coroner told them: "I know you are having a awful time, I am releasing the body to you".

New Bedford detectives were called to the stabbing, spoke with neighbors, interviewed witnesses and took crime scene photographs, court records say.

"It is quite stark and you can't help but feel it looks a bit confrontational. I think the police made the right decision but the fact they can't protect him isn't right".

Mr Osborn-Brooks and his family have not returned to their house since the burglary and their windows have now been boarded up for fear of reprisals.

Two female relatives, accompanied by a police family liaison officer, were present for the brief hearing, during which police authorised the release of Vincent's body to his family.

A man who wished to remain anonymous said he drove from his home in north London to remove flowers laid in tribute to Vincent, after becoming "infuriated" by the story.

"Billy Jeeves, 28, is being sought by police following the burglary, committed at an address in South Park Crescent, Hither Green SE6 at around 00:45hrs on Wednesday, 4 April".

It is thought the van, which was found burnt out and destroyed on Saturday evening in Orpington was used in the burglary in Lewisham.
