Minister of State for External Affairs V K Singh on Sunday left for Iraq in a special flight to bring back the mortal remains of these persons killed by the ISIS in the war-ravaged country.

"All necessary arrangements have been made to transport the mortal remains of 31 Indians killed in Iraq, who hail from different places in Punjab and Himachal, to their native places when the bodies reach tomorrow", PTI quoted Amritsar Deputy Commissioner Kamaldeep Singh Sangha said Monday. "We will hand over the mortal remains to their families". The minister has confirmed that the families of the deceased have been informed.

40 Indian workers were abducted by ISIS in 2014 when the terrorist group invaded Mosul. Will return to Amritsar, then Kolkata and then Patna.

The bodies were handed over to the Indian authorities in Baghdad on Sunday.

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj announced in Parliament recently that the 39 Indians kidnapped by the ISIS in 2014 in Mosul had been killed at Badoosh.

The 39 bodies were earlier exhumed after deployment of deep-penetration radars at the hillock.

In July previous year, Swaraj had firmly said in the Parliament that she would not declare the 39 Indians dead without concrete proof or evidence. They were buried in a mass grave.

While Iraq's Martyr's Foundation has been able to determine the DNA match for 38 Indians, the 39th Indian Raju Yadav's DNA matching is still under process.
