Starbucks CEO makes the right moves after coffee shop arrests (From WHYY)

Two men in Starbucks were arrested for the most ridiculous reason and people are outraged

Protesters called for the manager's firing after two black men were arrested on trespassing charges last week while waiting for a friend for a business meeting.

About two dozen chanting protesters have entered a Philadelphia Starbucks Monday and chanted "Starbucks coffee is anti-black" and "We are gonna shut you down".

The store's manager has now reportedly been fired, according to an ABC News report.

A company spokeswoman confirms that the manager at the Starbucks location at 18th and Spruce streets who called police is no longer an employee at the store.

On Monday morning, Starbucks CEO Kevin Johnson appeared on "Good Morning America" saying he was in Philly to offer the men an apology. Download The for your device.in English and other languages. "I'm not sold", he said.

Starbucks, which has 33 locations in Philadelphia, does not have a company-wide policy on asking members of the public to leave a store.

As Johnson spoke, activists resumed protests at the Starbucks store where the men were arrested Thursday while waiting to meet with a white acquaintance.

The Philadelphia Police Department has defended its handling of the incident, while the Philadelphia Commission on Human Relations has contacted Starbucks to discuss what occurred.

"The circumstances surrounding the incident and the outcome in our store on Thursday were reprehensible". And then I look at [the two men arrested] and said, 'Those are the kids who hang out at my house when my son is home.

Starbucks did not respond to repeated requests from BuzzFeed News about her status or if an internal review is indeed taking place.

"I'd like to have a dialogue with them and the opportunity to listen to them with compassion and empathy through the experience they went through", said Johnson, who has been CEO for about a year.

Finding racism, inadvertent or otherwise, in a self-described socially responsible company, speaks to how deeply ingrained hate, fear, and discrimination are, and to just how little we, as a country, have evolved from our racist, slaveholding past. Most soccer moms I know would likely leave private property when asked by police even once. Calls to boycott Starbucks poured in online, while protesters flooded the Philadelphia Starbucks store over the weekend. "And that is what we're focused on". "We will hit them where it hurts and that's in their pockets", Abdul-Ali Muhammad of the Black and Brown Workers Cooperative said.

That did little to quell the outcry from groups such as the Anti-Defamation League, which urged training for the Starbucks staffers, and the ACLU of Pennsylvania, which demanded that police cease racial profiling.

Brian Yarbrough, an equity analyst with Edward Jones, said the company might feel less of an impact on sales because Johnson took direct steps to address the episode, including expressing publicly that it was committed to investigating and conducting training. That's right: they called the police on a man who simply wanted to use the bathroom.

He said the men had been given three separate warnings over 15 minutes before they were arrested, showing "that there wasn't a rush to judgment".

In an interview, Johnson said part of the problem was a local policy that was ambiguous about when to call police.
