WW2 Bomb Forced Thousands to Flee Center of Berlin Friday

Travel advisory update: WW2 bomb to be defused on Friday morning – parts of central Berlin to be evacuated by 9am

In September, a 1,400-kilogram bomb discovered in Frankfurt led to almost 60,000 people being evacuated while experts defused the device.

It was unclear how long the bomb disposal squad would take to disable the bomb found during construction work on Heidestrasse in the district of Mitte.

German police have defused a World War II bomb in central Berlin, after some 10,000 people were evacuated.

Berlin police tweeted about the bomb on Friday calling it the "origin of all evil", because of the disruption it has caused.

The 800-metre (2,625 ft) exclusion zone "includes Berlin Hauptbahnhof, the city's main train station, as well as the German finance and transport ministries, foreign embassies, and a museum", says The Independent.

Long-distance and local train transport at the central station was disrupted for several hours.

Starbucks to close all U.S. stores for racial bias training
After police arrived, they requested an additional officer and supervisor, according to the audio. The employees claimed that the men were trespassing because they refused to leave the premises.

They posted a video on Twitter showing officers walking up the stairs in an apartment building with the caption: "We're not bringing room service or breakfast in bed but a personal wake-up call".

Unexploded bombs are so prevalent that the city offers a free service to landowners who are seeking to build: a team of researchers will examine old aerial photos and data to determine whether a property may have once been bombed.

The discovery of bombs from World War II are a common occurrence in Germany and police said there is no immediate danger for people in the area from the bomb.

Some roads were closed but were due to gradually reopen.

Thousands of unexploded bombs from the 1939-45 war are found every year.
