HTC announces a new blockchain-powered Android phone

HTC is creating an Android phone that's powered by blockchain

The report further said that HTC is roping in Phil Chen, the founder of HTC's virtual reality headset business Vive, for the project and he will be responsible for HTC's blockchain and cryptocurrency intiatives.

The Exodus will come with its own universal wallet, Cold Wallet, and dedicates to decentralized applications (DApp) with its own advanced security features, the company said. "There is a lot of work ahead of us, but I believe the mobile hardware layer can contribute significantly to our new decentralized world". HTC sees the Exodus as a handset that will let owners keep their data - and blockchain currencies - private and secure on the device rather than in the cloud, where your sensitive information may be easier to extract and tamper with.

The HTC Exodus will support underlying protocols, including Bitcoin, Lightning Networks, Ethereum, Dfinity, and others. "Together, we want to craft the best blockchain & decentralized application experiences to end consumers", he stated.

Key members of the HTC Exodus team include Sean Moss-Pultz, Edith Yeung, Chris McCann, Elizabeth Stark, and Dominic Williams.

The page has also added a "Reserve Now" button for any potential buyers who want to buy a blockchain-based smartphone.

HTC is taking a risk with the Exodus, but the Taiwanese company has never shied away from risk.

HTC, with its latest announcement, caused a stir in the industry.

HTC is reportedly looking to eventually launch its new native blockchain network ecosystem, with the individual Exodus devices acting as nodes for trading amongst users. In fact, i'll bet that these phones which double as a cryptocurrency wallet will become a prime target for attacks, and hope HTC is aware of this when developing it.

Earlier, Swedish company Sirin Labs had announced a partnership with contract manufacturer Foxconn to co-develop the world's first blockchain smartphone.

Details, including price, are now scant.
