Will not permit torture if confirmed to run CIA: Haspel

CIA nominee has ties to Kentucky

For some of us, the act of torture as an interrogation technique presents a most hard conundrum.

The Trump administration has disclosed the executive summary of Mr. Durham's report to the Intelligence Committee, and on Thursday, Senator Jeff Flake, Republican of Arizona, wrote to Attorney General Jeff Sessions asking for it to be made available to the full Senate, calling it "critically important" that all lawmakers have access to it.

In the Foster's Associated Press posting, "Haspel: Torture doesn't work for interrogation", the acting CIA Director Gina Haspel said she doesn't believe torture works as an interrogation technique and that her "strong moral compass" would prevent her from carrying out any order she found objectionable.

Ms. Haspel, a 33-year Central Intelligence Agency veteran who oversaw a secret prison in Thailand in 2002 while an al-Qaida suspect was waterboarded there, said that she and other spies were working within the law.

Christopher Snyder had been holding his wife captive over the weekend in their home in Brookeville, Md., according to police. Officers breached the front door at 11 p.m., with Snyder still on the phone with negotiators, prompting Snyder to hang up.

Ms Harris asked her: "Please answer the question". "Do you agree with that statement?"

The junior senator said he had not heard the actual comments so he could not respond to it. "Was that the environment in which you and the country were operating in at the time?" But Ms. Haspel said on Wednesday that the conversation never happened. "We got valuable information from debriefing of al Qaeda detainees, and I don't think it's knowable whether interrogation techniques played a role in that". But these assurances were not enough for the exquisite sensitivities at the Post, or for Democrat senators who are loath to confirm anyone, obviously qualified as Haspel is or no, nominated by Donald Trump.

After joining the agency in 1985, she quickly discovered she had a "knack for the nuts and bolts" of the profession.

Brutal interrogation practices are banned under United States law, but debate on the issue has resurfaced during Haspel's confirmation process because she was once involved in the CIA's interrogation program.
