Bill Clinton Loses His Cool At Prospect Of Apologizing To Lewinsky

Former President Bill Clinton said he couldn't get elected to'anything these days because'I just don't like embarrassing people- in direct response to a question about President Donald Trump's fondness for'personal insults

The commander in chief's son seemed equally impressed and stunned this week at the moxie displayed by Mr. Clinton as he addressed his affair with Monica Lewinsky.

"I think if the roles were reversed - now, this is me just talking, but it's based on my experience - if it were a Democratic president, and these facts were present, most people I know in Washington believe impeachment hearings would have begun already".

Kirsten Gillibrand, New York Democrat, who said in November that she thought he should have resigned his affair with Monica Lewinsky.

"The suggestion was that I never apologized for what caused all the trouble for me twenty years ago", he continued. In September of 1998, the then-president did publicly apologize to Lewinsky and others hurt by his behavior, but he has never said he was sorry to Lewinsky personally. "That's very different. The apology was public", he added.

McAuliffe, the longtime personal and professional ally of the Clintons who backed their purchase of a NY mansion after Bill Clinton left office, addressed the controversy Monday following the former president's emphatic defense of himself during an interview with NBC News' Craig Melvin on the "Today" show.

Clinton told "Today" that he does not believe Trump has gotten a pass on the accusations against him, "but it hasn't gotten anything like the coverage you would expect".

Ms Lewinsky wrote in "Vanity Fair" in March their relationship "was not sexual assault" but "constituted a gross abuse of power".

Clinton added that while he likes the #MeToo movement, he doesn't "agree with everything". The scandal launched a lengthy investigation that ended with Clinton becoming the the second-ever president to be impeached.

The whole point of Melvin's questioning Clinton about Lewinsky now was that sometimes social and personal perceptions can shift in 20 years.

Bill Clinton defended his actions dating back to the late 1990s when he had an affair with Monica Lewinsky, even in light of the Me Too movement.

Clinton then attacked his interviewer, arguing that he "typically have ignored gaping facts. You actually owe EVERYONE an apology, especially her. #MeToo" she posted.

"Do you feel like you owe her an apology", Melvin asked.

"I dealt with it 20 years ago, plus", said Clinton.

"Now, at 44, I'm beginning (just beginning) to consider the implications of the power differentials that were so vast between a president and a White House intern", she said.

In his fiery NBC appearance, Clinton said he did the "right thing" by not resigning over the scandal. "That's all I have to say to you".
