Google Disables The Ability To Book Uber Cabs From Maps App

I couldn’t resist making this

In case you didn't know it, Google Maps has an in-app function that lets you book a ride from your favorite ride-sharing service without having to leave the navigational app.

Google Maps has long offered estimates of journeys from ridesharing services - including Uber.

An Uber employee in the San Francisco Bay Area tweeted a screenshot of a message he got in the Uber app after requesting a ride at 4:56pm PT.

When users search for a place on Google Maps and ask for directions, they can select if they are walking, driving, biking, taking mass transit, or going on ride-sharing.

Now, Google is strangely removing a big portion of that functionality.

McCabe's recusals should be made public, and neither DOJ nor the OIG should do anything to hide any aspect of it", Bromwich said. While some of their messages between Strzok and Page were anti-Trump, others took aim at lawmakers such as U.S.

Uber acquired the ability to book rides in the Google Maps app by pulling up the account window and signalling the ride without leaving the app in January 2017.

Now though, that service integration is gone - and we have no idea why. However, the app has also allowed for users to actually book a ride from within, without having to jump over to the official Uber app. Uber has previously been criticized for location-tracking of passengers even after the ride was over and customers closed the app on their phones.

Uber has certainly changed how people get around. As of now, Google hasn't confirmed anything as to why it dropped the feature.

The Request a ride feature was introduced on both iOS and Android at the time of the launch.

Meanwhile, in India, Uber has been relegated to the same position as Ola on Google Maps with the removal of the feature.
