Rookie Niemann, 19, shares Memorial lead

Hideki Matsuyama holed out from the fairway on his way to a seven-under 65 at Muirfield Village on Friday

Tiger Woods feels his game is in "good shape" heading into the US Open, although admitted he will need to improve his putting to contend at Shinnecock Hills. An hit a remarkable flop shot to within a few feet, meaning he would nearly certainly make par.

But after a bogey-birdie start to the back nine, five-times victor Woods dropped another shot at the par-four 13th where his drive went out of bounds and all but ended his hopes of an 80th PGA Tour victory.

Bryson DeChambeau captured his second PGA title with a birdie at the second play-off hole to win the Memorial. I just didn't really play well.

"I can't believe I did it", DeChambeau said.

Tiger could easily have the lead at this point, but struggled with the putter and finds himself four shots back of the leader, Joaquin Niemann, who is looking to become the youngest victor on the PGA Tour since 1931. He wound up with a one-shot lead over Kyle Stanley, who bogeyed the 18th hole from the bunker for a 70; Patrick Cantlay, who drove into the creek left of the 18th fairway for a bogey and a 66; and Joaquin Niemann, the 19-year-old from Chile who atoned for one big mistake on the 15th hole with a birdie on the 18th for a 70.

"Just keep thinking about those two 3-footers I missed, " said DeChambeau, who was at 14-under 202.

White House spokesman Raj Shah told Fox News: "The president's actions are about protecting American steel , American aluminum". US President Donald Trump promised to impose tariffs, claiming trade across the Atlantic was a one-way street.

Two holes later, DeChambeau indeed finished things off. And then he stalled, just like he did on Friday.

Another birdie on the 15th briefly gave him a share of the lead but for the second consecutive day the 42-year-old was left to rue his putting. I can't believe I'm saying this five months into his latest comeback, but I fully expect him to play well enough to contend for it. Stanley fell out on the first playoff hole with a bogey, and then DeChambeau birdied the second for victory.

Woods was finishing when a long final round took shape over the last few holes. Thomas shot a 68 with three bogeys and was seven off the lead. While he has yet to score his first victory back on the Tour, he has magnificently outperformed expectations, and brought plenty of his Tiger magic back to the sport. She was at 12-under 204 for the tournament. Three years ago, in his last appearance at Muirfield Village, Woods shot a third-round 85 and finished last in the field by 8 strokes.

"I'm in position. Hopefully I'm not too far back", he said.

On the opening playoff hole he again lost his tee shot right and it bounced onto a bad side hill lie.

Danny Willett, the 2016 Masters champion, and former No. 1 Martin Kaymer, were two strokes off the lead at Gardagolf Country Club.
