Summit with Kim Jong Un back on for June 12 in Singapore

With respect to US-North Korea summit Mike Pompeo has said there is still a lot of work left to

Trump re-instated the June 12 summit after a White House meeting with Kim Yong Chol, a top North Korean official who delivered a letter from Kim Jong Un.

The announcement came after Trump hosted a senior North Korean envoy at the White House and he delivered a personal letter from Kim that was inside a white envelope almost as large as a folded newspaper.

"They are meeting to see what needs to be done in the two weeks that remain", a senior U.S. official said. But since the president made that announcement, we've seen a flurry of diplomatic activity. Trump's "maximum pressure" campaign ratcheting up sanctions and pressure to push North Korea to the negotiating table resonates with them.

Trump issued a letter to Kim on May 24 nixing initial plans for the summit over what the president deemed offensive comments by North Korea over demands for denuclearization.

On Friday, Trump told the press that the "letter was a very nice letter" and offered to share it with them. That means Trump needs to get something tangible out of a summit that will draw intense global scrutiny, analysts said.

Kim Yong Chol became the first North Korean to visit the White House since 2000.

Separate talks have been going on in Singapore and along the Demilitarized Zone along the border between North and South Korea.

Pompeo met with Kim Yong Chol, one of the North Korean leader's closest aides.

With relations thawing, the USA has pledged to help rebuild North Korea's economy if it agrees to give up its nuclear weapons.

We can assume that Kim Jong Un's principal interest is to destroy, or to at least weaken, the alliance between the United States and South Korea, a goal that Chinese President Xi Jinping likely shares.

The historic meeting between Mr Trump and Kim Jong-un would be the first between sitting USA and North Korean leaders.

Trump then reversed course, saying both sides wanted the meeting to happen and it could still go ahead after productive talks.

SEOUL - The first Korean won-denominated green bonds will make their debut on the country's main stock market next week, the bourse operator said Friday.

Kim Yong Chol left his hotel in New York City early on Friday for the trip to Washington in a convoy of vehicles.

On Thursday, after talks with Kim Yong-chol in NY, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo expressed confidence that the process was moving in the right direction, but warned that the North's young leader must be bold enough to make a "strategic shift" in understanding that he will be safer without nuclear weapons.

"We can anticipate, at best, a bumpy road to the (negotiations)", Mattis said before the start of a meeting with his South Korean and Japanese counterparts on the sidelines of Shangri-la dialogue in Singapore."We will continue to implement all U.N Security Council resolutions on North Korea".

"We believe it is very important to treat these contacts in a very delicate manner, not to make any abrupt movements, to artificially speed up the process that requires a significant amount of time", Lavrov said, according to a transcript released by the Russian foreign ministry.
