Vermont Will Pay People $10,000 To Move There And Work Remotely

Vermont governor signs bill to pay people $10K to move to state and work remotely

Vermont has an offer for you.

"We have about 16,000 fewer workers than we did in 2009", Scott said in a statement, according to CNBC. About 25 remote workers each year will be able to benefit. You will also need to prove you are a full-time remote worker for a company outside of the state.

The New Remote Worker Grant Program would require workers to become full-time residents of the Green Mountain State.

The program will be run by the Agency of Commerce and Community Development. Vermont is aging faster than the rest of the USA population, an economic crisis that has prompted some creative solutions from state officials.

By luring out-of-state tech workers, the grant program hopes to revitalize Vermont's aging workforce.

Up to $5,000 a year, or not exceeding $10,000 for two years, may be given to qualified workers in Vermont. The $10,000 is created to go toward moving costs and other expenses needed to set-up a remote-working location, including computer equipment, but will be paid in two installments of $5,000 annually for two years. In March, Governor Scott and the Vermont Department of Tourism and Marketing announced the so-called Stay-to-Stay initiative, which is meant to help tourists relocate to the state. The funds are distributed on the basis of first come first served and the state has annual limits for the grants. "We recognize the need to recruit people to the state, and this is one of those efforts".

Vermont is introducing a creative way to make its population a little less grey.

The cap rises to $250,000 in 2020 and then drops back down to $125,000 in 2021.

However there could be tax implications if one lives in one state while working in another. In March, Gov. Scott and the Vermont Department of Tourism and Marketing announced the Stay-to-Stay initiative, a program created to help tourists permanently relocate to the state.
