Scott Pruitt out at EPA after months of ethics scandals

White House looking into Scott Pruitt using staff for personal use

Scott Pruitt has resigned as head of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency amid mounting scrutiny of his spending and ethics practices.

Trump tweeted Thursday that EPA deputy Andrew Wheeler would "assume duties as the acting administrator of the EPA". Come Monday, Wheeler will be the agency's acting chief. "I have no doubt that Andy will continue on with our great and lasting EPA agenda", Trump wrote.

Wadsworth GOP Rep. Jim Renacci, who is a Republican candidate for Senate against Brown, posted a statement on Twitter congratulating Wheeler.

"We were pleased to defeat him in court recently", Janeway added, referring to recent rulings that ordered the EPA to take action to curb acid rain and smog in the Northeast caused by Midwest factories. Here's a quick review: Wheeler. Lawmakers posed tough questions on a range of issues also including raises for top aides and reports of retaliation against EPA whistleblowers.

Under Pruitt, the EPA "rolled back punishing regulations that were hurting American workers and stifling our economy", Barrasso said. James Inhofe, R-Okla., whom you may recall from the 2015 floor speech in which he rebutted climate change science with a snowball.

"He is not an accidental administrator".

"Scott Pruitt was able to keep his position for so long-despite astonishing megalomania and unethical behavior-only because of Donald Trump's historic embrace of corruption". Andrew Wheeler, the No. 2 official at EPA, will now take over the agency. His most prominent former client, coal magnate Robert E. Murray, is an aggressive opponent of important air-pollution rules that the Obama EPA tried to impose and that Mr. Pruitt began the process of ripping up. "But we will continue to fight back against whoever is next in line to rip up our environmental protections, and we will continue to win".

Iran exported about 1.9 million barrels a day during the first quarter of this year, according to OPEC figures. "We are serious about our efforts to pressure Iran to change its threatening behavior", the official said .

It's not just Wheeler's time in government that concerns environmental advocates.

Pruitt, a close ally of the fossil fuel industry, also was known for questioning the human role in global climate change.

Senators asked Wheeler about the Murray meeting during his confirmation hearing.

"I believe man has an impact on the climate, but what is not completely understood is what the impact is", Wheeler responded. The reason Pruitt persisted so long is the same reason why his environmentalist foes shouldn't break out the organic Champagne: The administrator was doing exactly what his boss wanted. In them, he noted that Trump gave money to both political parties over the years and said Trump was a successful PR person but not a successful businessman.

Others were less enthused, with Massachusetts Democratic Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, offered a slightly rosier outlook Friday. Before becoming a principal at the firm Faegre Baker Daniels, Wheeler was chief counsel for the Republicans on the Senate's Environment and Public Works Committee.

His job had been in jeopardy since it emerged he had leased a property previous year that was co-owned by the wife of a veteran fossil fuels lobbyist, whose firm had sought regulatory rollbacks from the EPA.
